Keir Starmer becomes the 58th Prime Minister of Britain
There was a change of power in Britain on Friday, July 5. The ruling Conservative Party lost the elections to the Labor Party after 14 years. A few hours later, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak resigned from the post of Prime Minister. 61-year-old Keir Starmer of the Labor Party has become the 58th Prime Minister of the country.
Sunak has accepted defeat and apologized to the party. He also called Starmer and congratulated him on the victory. Labor Party has got a bumper victory in the general elections. The party has won 412 out of total 650 seats. The results of 2 seats will come on Saturday. 326 seats are required to form the government. On the other hand, Conservatives were reduced to 120 seats. This is the biggest defeat of the Conservative Party in the last 200 years.
Keir Stormer has formed his cabinet. Taking a historic step, he has made Rachel Reeves the Finance Minister. She is the first woman to achieve this post. Reeves is 45 years old. He started his career from the banking sector. Apart from this, Angela Rainer has got the post of Deputy Prime Minister. Rainer has also been given the charge of Minister for Equality, Housing and Communities.
